Sometimes, the job that once worked for you doesn’t work for you anymore. Changing direction can feel risky. Especially when you’ve got bills to pay, a family to think about, or years of experience in one career.
What else could I do? Could I make it work financially? Do I really want to start all over again?
For Megan, the answer wasn’t starting again. It was building on something she already enjoyed and, with support from Barnsley’s Pathways to Work, turning it into an opportunity that worked for her life.
Because your experience still counts, your skills still count, and what you want from work can change. You don’t have to start again to start something new.
John was able to realise his future career goals through volunteering.
John was struggling with his confidence and found himself facing barriers to work after leaving school without his Maths and English qualifications.
Through volunteering at Elsecar Heritage Centre, he has gained more confidence and has a new-found passion for working with communities in the heritage sector.
When everyone else seems to be moving forward, feeling stuck can knock your confidence even more.
Maybe school wasn’t your thing. Maybe you’re worried you won’t be good enough. Or maybe the idea of choosing what to do with your future just feels too big.
Macinly was stuck too.
With support from Barnsley’s Pathways to Work, he explored what interested him, got practical help with finding opportunities and applications, and took his next step into an apprenticeship doing something he enjoys.
You don’t need a plan. You don’t need all the answers.
We start with you and help you work out what comes next.
A job might work on paper. But will it work around your life?
The school run, childcare.,the cost of going back to work, finding hours that fit, and the worry of trying to juggle everything without dropping something.
When you’re a parent, finding a job is only part of the equation.
Sophia knew it wasn’t going to be easy. But with support from Barnsley’s Pathways to Work, she found a way forward that worked for her and her daughter.
Because we don’t start with the job.
We start with you. Your circumstances. Your responsibilities. What you want next.
Some of the sessions will be held in our purpose built studios in the centre of Penistone, others will be based around the Barnsley area to suit demand.
